We also invite you to attend other special activities here, which include book signings from both the General and special guests a silent auction with many one of a kind items and the ceremony for the Peet Station Annex. Special hours During the Celebration of Freedom: 10:00 to 5:00 Saturday May 29, 2010 12:00 to 5:00 Sunday May 30, 2010 1:00 to 5:00 Monday May 31, 2010 General Tommy Franks served his country for 38 years. A national hero who served his country with honor, he was wounded three times and received five awards for valor in the Vietnam War. He ultimately, rose through the ranks to become the commanding general who led our troops to military victories in Afghanistan and Iraq after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. During that time, he and his wife Cathy had collected and been presented with a virtual treasure trove of mementoes and gifts from around the world. When the General retired, many of the items were in storage, and he decided that he wanted to share them with others by placing them in a museum for public viewing. Along with this presentation, he also wanted the American people to recognize the reality of the cultural differences or similarities among nations as they view gifts given to him in friendship, or see the vestiges of evil acknowledged in museum displays. The education of today’s youth in preparation for the challenges of tomorrow is the General’s passion, and he has created a leadership institute in conjunction with the museum to promote its theme of Leadership, Patriotism and Service.
